Hiccups (Singultus)
Hiccups are usually a benign and transient phenomenon that most often occurs idiopathically, although included in the differential diagnosis are a variety of disorders. Continuous symptoms lasting greater than 48 hours often have an organic cause.
COMMON CAUSES OF HICCUPS
Idiopathic
Excess alcohol
Excessive smoking
Eating large boluses of food with inadequate liquid
Air swallowing
