This article is a local end-to-end test of the Clinical Post ordering flow (b). It walks through a short safety checklist used before a peripheral nerve block.
Before the block
- Confirm consent, site and side.
- Check coagulation status and allergies.
- Have lipid emulsion and resuscitation equipment ready.
During the block
Use ultrasound guidance, aspirate before each injection and inject in small increments while watching the patient. See the ASRA guidance for details.
After the block
Monitor for local anesthetic systemic toxicity for at least 30 minutes and document the block clearly.
